Right, I can't seem to get wget or htop via the nokia repostitories and can't find the apt sources list they're in so I thought I would compile wget and htop manually on the device.

Bit of a problem using both sudo gainroot and root / rootsh. Running ./configure on wget source = permission denied.

Tried changing CHMOD to 777 to no avail.

Am I doing something wrong or do I not have true root access?

Another thing I have noticed to be an issue recently is flash in the web browser, BBC iplayer was smooth, now it lags like a cow in a field grazing. Ideas?

Hmm, I have wget installed, apt-cache search wget gives you nothing?

Apparently not. Just goes back to allowing me to enter another command.

Ok, do you have extras-testing and extras-devel enabled?

    Probably not.

Tips on how to add these? Its not the same as using Debian on a pc! Half the commands are missing lol.

The /etc/apt/sources.list is empty. Thats not right surely?

You can just add them through application manager -> Application catalogous and then names, address, distribution (fremantle), free non-free.

[edit] and regarding the chmod problem, where was your wget source? Remember that /home/user/My Documents is fat formatted so it doesn't support privileges and the standard mask won't allow you to execute anything.

Ah thats how you do that. I just found a guide saying that. I'll add the debian ones on for a laugh as well.

wget source is in that very location, and now you mention FAT formatted, that would explain a lot.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything specific to install wget - it seemed as though it was already installed. Was it not there already in /usr/bin ?

Unless it came along with some other random package.

Note to Debian fans.. don't put the respoitories on the N900 as it will break application manager, and installing Wget from debian them selfs replaces maemo software, breaking application manager even more.
