How hard is it for a non linux person to get, compile and install latest version of modest on n900?

There arae quite few annoying bugs in modest and i want to try installing latest version

Well even myself as a linux person as you put it I can't actually get it to build. Simply fails with MODEST_GSTUFF not there or something along those lines.

not good, you would think you could just get the source, compile and install it

I tried Modest from svn once - I got parts compiled but failed in packaging and didn't bother more.. mostly wasted time and resources..
