can anyone confirm that flashing still "disables" the unlock code at startup?

i have a n900 with maemo and didn't use it for quite some months. now i've forgotten my unlock code and i'm pretty much screwed up.

as i said, i tried flashing the phone but after flashing the unlock code is still enabled and i can not enter the os. what's wrong?
