Recently I have not been able to.open multiple programs, but in the past I was able to. E.g., I cannot run xterm, opera, and gtalk contacts simultaneously. The free command indicates that I have plenty of swap space available.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas for a solution?

I haven't had any problems.
Are you using a swapfile or swap partition?

I am using the built-in swap file created in the control panel. I have 64mb allocated to swap on a 1gb card.
