I am trying to make use of my pretty vast collection of music with Nokia. The server is a Linux box, so I exported the file tree via NFS, flashed experimental mmcplus52MHz kernel from:
and downloaded extra modules for the same kernel. I've also installed nfs-common package on Nokia. Kernel works perfectly with my 2Gb Kingston MMCM card and all of NFS modules load without a single error. I was able to mount my NFS share and access it from Nokia FileManager and audio player. Unfortunately, the playback is rather choppy, it sounds as if media player does not do any buffering at all so the playback is interrupted every time a new NFS buffer has to be read across the wireless connection (I can track it watching the router LEDs blink). I tried increasing NFS buffer size to a maximum (rsize=32768) which helps a bit but still every time the buffer is exhausted player chokes. I also tried latest MPlayer to the same effect. Also, it hogs CPU and locks the GUI completely.
Anyone with NFS "streaming" experience, please comment. Am I doing something wrong or is it simply the limitation of device and I need to look into some real streaming solutions (e.g. VLC)?
Testing was done with Netgear RangeMax 240 (WPNT834NA, latest firmware V1.0_51) wireless router sitting in direct proximity to Nokia tablet.
It has passed a lot of time, but now with my N800/OS2008 I can access and listen to my mp3 files through NFS very well. I'm using a TPLink wi-fi router and an Encore 8-port switch linked to my Linux music server, which runs in Debian Lenny.
But I'm having problems with using a decent audio player to hear my sounds, in a playlist.
Canola is fine, but can not access the NFS share directly... It's almost off-topic, but do you suggest a decent player that can do that?
