Folks having msn running on my phone is pretty important to me and I got an N900 even though everyone else I know is going BB. Now coming from an E71 on my flaky 2g Edge service I never had issues staying connected with msn using an app called talkonaut on symbian. I believe this was a jabber client of some sort and would connect to talkonaut servers.

My issue is that no matter what option I try I always seem to get disconnected eventually. It is not an obvious disconnect either since the phone still shows green as online, I know I am not connected since my contact list shows everyone is offline. I have myself added to my coneact list and I always see my self listed as online.

I tried Pecan today and the same thing happened, after about an hour or so all my contacts went offline. I know people are online because if I disconnect and reconnect everyone magically shows online and start msging me

Any idea why that would be happening? Does this basically mean that my edge service is too poor to use msn on my n900? I did some pings and I get like 300 ms or so to google....

I did have some luck with pidgin though the battery life was way too poor for me to get through a day with it.

woodyear99 -> I would think that You're connection is dropping (as You mention)... Haven't heard of this problem before...

    But still it SHOULD reconnect...

Yeah it probably is, I wish it would reconnect though instead of just showing that I am connected when I am not in reality. Makes it difficult to know what's going on.

The latest version of Pecan seems to drain more battery life, at least for me. When I'm online, the n900 becomes slightly warm but as soon as i disconnect, the n900 cools down and battery drain decreases significantly.

Has anyone else made this observation?

Yes that is the first thing I noticed when using pecan, it definitely makes the phone warmer. Especially when compared to when I use jabber servers. I still think Jabber is the most power efficient way of using IM on the N900. That said I also get the previously mentioned disconnect issue on jabber as well, it does not autoreconnect. Weird since I do not have problems staying connected with pidgin though that is a massive battery eater so no good for me.....

Interesting, I'll take a look at that.
