There is no agreement between China Unicom and Tencent don't speculate like that. If you actually used pidgin on the desktop to connect QQ you would know it has the same problems. What you need to do is when you get disconnected is to REACTIVATE your account. Go to the link your IM program gives you; login with your QQ details. When it asks to change your pw click skip. While you're on that Safety page, you might as well apply for a higher security level by providing more information. e.g. choosing secret questions; filling in an old friend's QQ no.; maybe even register your mobile no. Also apply for a secret password matrix card. Fill as much as you can. You'll probably increase your chance of staying connected. Once you get those capchas its ovwr cause those are useless with pidgin.
Ok, so I did as you said and simply changed my password on QQ's site. didnt do any of the other added safety measures since its all in Chinese and I 看不懂 (and google translate isnt super accurate)。 but i'm currently connected and its been on for over 10 minutes and works like a charm! fingers crossed its not just this one time i login and I wont have trouble logging back in on my PC. so maybe they just needed the verification by changing the password (hopefully one time). thanks.
You didn't need to change your pw. Just click skip on that part and your account should be reactivated; for how long who knows but you will be able to connect again. You can ask your Chinese friends to help with the extra measures if you want.

well actually I setup the "extra measures" (by sending the SMS's from my device and using their confirmation code) but that actually prevented me from signing into my QQ2009 on my desktop!!! (it has to be the simplified chinese version)
20 minutes and probably 10 CNY-spent-on-messages later I realized how to disable/unbind the security measures so that I can sign back in on my PC version.
anyway, it looks like there's no way around it. whether we use the "extra conversation plugin" or PidginTencent will NOT let you sign in or at least will not keep you connected for long, no matter how many times you change your password (or try to reactivate) or add the online security measures!!! They want you to use their software I'm sure of it now. I dont even think it would help if someone ported the linux QQ client to the N900 since the servers at Tencent will disconnect you sooner or later if youre not using their app! We will just have to hope that they come out with an app for the N900 I guess? I can't find a 'contact us' email on their website in English, really want to request from them to make the app for the N900.
Has anyone figured out how to get QQ on the n900 yet?
Pidgin is unusable because well, Tencent keeps disconnecting you and you have to change your password the next time you login from your desktop. The same with the "extra conversations plugins"
(WebQQ is also, well, horrible. fonts are too small, very clustered.)
I spent the past hour at China Unicom with the guys there reading all the search results of Google and Baidu but still have not found a decent solution. Is Tencent going to come out with a client for the N900? They're not letting any 3rd party plugins connect. I also tried connecting via a Jabber QQ Transport....they're all offline!!! Tencent won't let anyone connect unless its through their propietary **** huh.
There's no point contacting Tencent and China Unicom won't help you on an unsupported device even if they could they don't have the know how. The N900 isn't even targeting the Chinese market. I can get on QQ via Pidgin on the N900 fine most of the time. The longer you stay connected, the more stable your connection to Tencent servers will be. You don't need to change your password each time, just reactivate.

I dont know how you're doing it but I can't stay on Pidgin for longer than 10 minutes without Tencent finding out and disconnecting me. And yes, reactivation wouldn't be such a problem but you can't do it within Pidgin (and thus on the N900). I have to reactivate on my desktop (launch QQ and it sends me a website to reactivate)...

Save your QQ login details on the QQ Safety Page on MicroB, then you can reactivate quickly. Did you do the other security measures? E.g. verify your mobile #, create a QQ security matrix card. Enter a QQ# of an old friend, etc. I have 100 pts on my security level. Maybe thats why my connection is more stable?
