If you go to the application manager and download ssh status switcher you can turn ssh on and off from the dash. It should be set to on by default but it might be worth a try?

the apps dosen´t in the file status-menu.plugins its ****!!! but so better xd
you can change the backround for the lockscreen and also other screens with D-Iivils theme customizer too (warning! in extras-devel version 0.9-13 or later)
