The thread "Overclocking the n900 to .9GHz or even 1GHz?" with eight posts has been merged into this thread.

So overclocked N900 is pretty much on par with iPad, although the comparsion is pretty dumb as it's a completely different kind of vechile.

Second thing - the Snapdragon. According to a Swedish Android site (http://www.swedroid.se/test-av-acer-liquid-s100) A8 @ 550MHz is faster than Snapdragon @768 MHz. For example BenchmarkPi gives 5500 ms for OMAP3430, and 8300 ms for QSD8250.

It might be a software issue, maybe also related to memory bus or speeds, but in general it seems that for MHz per MHz Cortex-A8 is indeed faster than Snapdragon. Even though the cores share a somewhat similar architecture.

And that makes an overclocked N900 pretty much the fastest smartphone on Earth.
That's insane, I was actually tempted by iPad but no way I will buy one if its no more powerful than my N900.

Flashed mine in the morning straigth to 900MHz kernel and DAMN! Fast like i wished this alwaysto be! I have lots of extras-devel stuff installed and all desktops filled with contacts, shortcuts and widgets, crammed up so to speak and this thing is really snappy.
I decided to flash the fw too after the speedboost made me greedy and it helped some and also fixed my annoyingly slow file manager.

After a days use, no increased temp as far as i can tell and the speed boost everywhere makes me a happy owner INDEED.
After the pr1.2 i believe this thing will truly be the king of the hill!

I will at some point try the 950 or 1000 just for the heck of it

also, now that i have had it well over 24 hours and have used 3 batteries ( i use a battery until it dies and in the evening, swap them out to charge completely, then go to bed with one charging)

heat is the same as before, so this is good.

still same heat when on the phone. this is normal

my phone is locked to 3g the entire time, and a lot of wifi (g) yesterday and today.

battery is supprisingly a tad longer IMO. i will have a better idea after the next couple of days.

phone is MUCH snappier and boots MUCH quicker as well.

when i tap my calendar, it used to have to "load" my data and take a few seconds. when i tap it now, it blinks open and is loaded

...same with my contacts (i have 1035 contacts, with most of them w/pictures)

...same with my email...just a little delay now because it is updating 5 imap4 and 1 pop3 email when opening...but after the first opening from boot up is instant (i really wish it would cache what was synced last until next sync, hope this is fixed because it is really annoying)

...same with my conversations....used to "load" now snaps open.

As posts are listed chronologically, the end result would be identical.

Too bad there apparently isn't a way to merge it so that the posts make sense. For example, someone new to the thread is not going to understand why someone thought the previous post was really funny, because the hilarity has nothing to do with the previous post.

I'm just mentioning this from the point of view of having comprehensible messages, but I guess that isn't important.

But to give an example, the message starting "wow. That's total news here" seems to refer to the previous message, which has nothing to do with it.

Some threads would be better deleted than merged.
