well in posts and internet websites, i read that the ARM processor can scale up to 1ghz.
nokia locking the default to 600mhz is maybe because:
-the CPU may not be damaged @1ghz and up but in battery operated devices, its different. you might blow your battery up before you melt your CPU
-the CPU may not be damaged but the mother board might (overheat and overvoltage may be the reason)
IMHO!!!

Cheers for all the good work titan.
I'm not too sure what the combination was but I bricked my N900 today after I tried to uninstall the latest kernel-power. I wanted to install the "Bugfix for Touchscreen calibration" and so clicked on uninstall kernel-power from my menu.
It gave me the warning, which I clicked OK and then after a couple of seconds it gave a confirmation that the kernel-power had been uninstalled. I then checked in Conky and saw that I was still running at 900Mhz. I then went to re-boot the phone, but it wouldn't turn back on again.

Grr... Why did I try this at work?! Bricked using the uninstall app in the menu. Have to wait till I get home to reflash!
sudo gainroot apt-get install --reinstall -y kernel kernel-flasher apt-get remove -y kernel-power kernel-power-modules

kernel-flasher-maemo was the old name (changed more than one month ago).
it is now only an empty transition package that you can safely deinstall.

the "deinstall" menu item is very experimental.
It doesn't work with LR1.2 (which I'm running).
it basically does the same as
http://wiki.maemo.org/Kernel_Power#Deinstallation
I'd appreciate if you could test the following commands manually (not the menu item) and send me the output.
after that you can install kernel-power-flasher or settings via HAM again.Code:sudo gainroot apt-get install --reinstall -y kernel kernel-flasher apt-get remove -y kernel-power kernel-power-modules
