Has anyone attempted this yet?

If so, is it as simple as updating /etc/passwd, creating the home directorys and off they go?

I've not tried it, no, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Not sure you'd be able to use it for anything other than running CLI or daemon processes though.

On my N800, I was able to create a local user account with the standard "useradd" command.

Haven't tried it on the N900 yet...

My idea is for creating mobile proxy servers with the N900's. Create a basic user account to allow SSH onto it. Then allow people to create ssh tunnels to the N900's and surf wherever they normally couldn't get to. For our China users.

Unfortunately I dropped my phone while installing the OpenSSH server and knocked the battery out. Upon reboot I can no longer install the server. Trying to figure out why.

yes, here (#2).

useradd works as expected.

edit:
when you run "useradd" as root, you get nothing?

Yep.

Just checked which useradd though and found it /usr/sbin/useradd.

Will use that.

Multiple users with gdm style login would be great way to handle user profiles. ie work and personal........now if only we could get dual sims as well.
