Does this happen when you use some program on phone or when it wakes up from idle state or both?

.edit
Did you have any program running on phone when it didn't wake up from key lock?

It happens when it wakes up from idle state. It doesn't really wake up..the ringtone sounds but no light is emitted.

I am on this problem. The N900 always (after the first day on my hand), blank screen when i call out or incoming calls. Everyday, everytime, it used to be blank screen during calls out or incoming. The only way to me is using slide flip button to lightup screen.

Using it in direct sun light gives me the same problem. Using the unlock key would only temporarily open it and when I try to click on on the answer key it goes blank again.

It takes a lot of trial and error to be able to answer the call.

In the beginning i just thinked about the problem cause by Screen protector, but it still happened after i REMOVED the screen protector.

Call coming screen went blank(locked) often happen indoor (20%), and 100% happens outdoor(daylight).
When i phone ringing outdoor, the screen is black and device locked, i have to run back to indoor, the screen light-up, then i can see who is calling.

I totally can't answer phone calls in daylight outdoor, even i had removed the screen protector. (But some users' N900 working fine outdoor.)

Ok guys I've been experimenting a bit and it seems this IS a proximity sensor problem, at least for me. As Hakeqi and others have already stated, this seems to ALWAYS happen during daytime when the sun is out and at night or indoors it has never happened. A simple workaround is to open the slider and that way the phone goes into landscape mode and you are free to answer as the screen shows up. I would really like to know if this problem is being fixed or any better solution. It's quite a hassle having to turn the phone sideways all the time and doesn't give a good impression to people who are interested in the phone and haven't seen it.

I've experienced this bug several times. I just don't know if it has anything to do with sunlight. I have it on portrait mode only because I don't like the way it jumps arround when you pick the phone up. it takes alot of time to chame modes... the phone app should be a priority! and still sometimes it gets slow... I had the same problem with automatic mode.

Sometimes the phone is lying down and i get an incomming call. the phone starts ringing and the screen is black. i pick it up and start to stress out clicking on the on\off button and the lock button for it to show who is calling. sometimes takes like 5 secs to show the screen... this is very very annoying.

I somwtimes had this problem with PR 1.1 too.
