I don't have an n900 but I can only imagine that the camera is worlds better than my n800 or n810.
i wouldnt be so sure. nvr had a n810 or n800 but i know that the n900 pics are like the first iphone pics. u wouldnt even know its a 5 mp lense if it wasnt in the specs. I also did tons of research on settings such as exposure, iso sensitivty, macro, and all the other terms found in the camera app that i never needed to know the meanings of till now. Even still no dice. the pics are crap. i am coming froma n95 so maybe i am spoiled but i bought my n95 yrs ago and i think the rest of the world, AT LEAST NOKIA should be up on par with that technology by now or at least come close to it

I'm sorry but what you are saying is utter crap. I have both the 1st gen and 3g iPhones and their cameras and photo quality are worlds away from what the N900's 5MP camera produces.

Here's a gallery of N900 pics taken by Tim Samoff. He's a good photographer with regular cameras and it shows in his N900 pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/timsamo...7622407857408/

Show me examples of iPhone pics that come close to any of those then you may have a case. If your camera is not working as you think it should, send it away to be repaired. The N900 is still under warranty.

N900 has a decent camera, and its specifications suits very well a camera phone.
In the right hands, even the worst camera can produce amazing results.
In the end, i love N900 shots a lot more than N86, which is regarded as one of the best camera phone out there; 5Mpix are reasonably good, and results are not pixel-like.

It shows that if you're taking crap pictures its because the guy who is using it hasn't got a clue on how to set a camera up.

I get fantastic pictures from my device, even from an aircraft in low lighting outside. I often take macro pictures and they are stunning. Up against a digital camera, some pictures look so much better.

Admittedly, yes there are some features missing from the camera software (will be added in PR1.2 it seems), and it isn't great for taking pictures in complete darkness, but no camera is without a massive flash on it.

As for the iphone, the camera is crap, always has been and always will be, as are the HTC phones, and toshiba tg01. Its not much cop unless you've got blinding day light, thats why the iphone is so thin and featureless in that respect. It uses a cheap sensor so that apple could maintain their fashion accessory.

Entirely disagree with you about the camera quality.

If you focus correctly and have enough light, the n900 takes great quality and detailed photos.

No issues for me every now and then i get blur when i hoped for something sharper but thats just me the user

got some stunning pictures out of it and to say its a quick point and shoot for twitter / facebook.... i can't say i can fault it.

I came from a HTC 3.2mp so of course... i see a large difference.

Man this guy doesn't know what he is talking about with Camera quality. My pictures are fine and N900 took much nicer picture than N95 in some condition and if the light is forgiving. If you set the camera ISO wrong and not knowing how to angle the light to get the best picture possible then your picture will be crap lol.

Not to offending you or anything. But I took great pictures with my N900, I'll be on the trip to Cambodia on Monday, and i'll post up some more of the pictures i've captured there.

I have no issues with my 900 camera either. In fact, it is far superior to the N95's despite using the same optics. The video quality is also stunning. If you can use the light to your advantage and have good light conditions then the camera, for a phone, is virtually faultless. Granted, it doesnt do night or low light conditions very well at all, and the twin LED as a flash sucks (come on Nokia get on the Xenon bandwagon hint hint!), but I put bad image quality down much more to whoever is behind the camera, rather than the camera itself.

Every camera has limitations, and yes I would rather be behind the lens of an EOS 50D, but all in all, for a quick whip-it-out-your-pocket and snap camera, the 900 has got everything I need to take the snaps I want.

Someone remove that "n900 is poo" tag as well. replace it with "some n900 owners are poo" instead.

I agree if you focus corectly and have "enough" light. However! why can you only take good shots in "enough light" ie natural daylight? thats some bs. defend the camera all you like as it is not the worst camera in the world. in fact it is fairly good. Good when compared to other camera phones of a smaller calibur liek less meg pixles lesser quality lense lessor phone manufacture. the prob is you shouldnt have to compared it to those kinda factors for it to be rated just good

my point is you shouldn't have to take a friggan camera class to take great shots. you dont have to do it with a regular digital camera and you dont have to do it with the nokia n95 which came out yrs before this and had the exact same lens maker!!

n95? i didnt not haev to wait untill i had perfect day light in order to take pics. i could take awesoem pics indoors

i am happy i got this thread popping again but i think my statements were missunderstood. i agree the camera is good. i agree that with good lighting it can be awesome. my point is i shouldnt have to sit around and tweak the settings, olay with the light angle, pray that the clouds inteh sky dont shift, go outside, take test shot after test shot to see if the settings are right just to take a quality camera phone pic. for those of you who dissagree then see the poll taking abou tthe n900 camera quality. its like 80/20

i dont think this is a isolated issue. i think it is a manufactuers oversight
