Still, the short term problem is that of the OP, too: just having an engine will not bring in all those games, *some* porting efforts will be needed on the apps themselves and until Ovi actually works, that's not going to happen. And Ovi needs a lot, LOT more love to be interesting for commercial devs. Also, any engine would need to shoot for a Qt 4.6 minimum (I don't really expect anyone to invest in Clutter or GTK+ stuff at this point), which is PR1.2, so with the time needed for porting, adapting, the dates just keep slipping... Also, Nokia does not really have a too good track record of buying/securing 3rd party stuff - for example if acquiring the rights/licensing of PyQt was an issue worth foregoing Python-Qt development for almost a whole generation (or two) of Maemo products, I would be surprised if a(ny) commercial game engine would have an easy task of landing official Nokia support...

I started posting in this thread to resolve misconceptions and stepped on the pet misconceptions of a few people while making what appeared to be fairly obvious statements of facts.
    • Ovi store is not discriminating against C/C++ apps. It turn out it's simply "discriminating" against Fremantle because it doesn't support it yet.
    • Resources are always limited. This is especially obvious in maemo when observing e.g. the slow progress on implementing infrastructure. The few people involved are doing a great job, but it's simply a case of not enough resources being dedicated by Nokia (and community members) to their pet platform.
    • Nokia does not set the priorities for independent development. Having old games or emulators ported to Maemo is not dictating Nokia's next move. I'm sorry if SDLMAME killed your mother, really i am.

Any other comments were probably pointless and out of line and i apologize. Apparently i've still yet to learn that when the community is in rant mode pointing out errors is not going to be productive, so i'll leave this thread as a place to rant about Ovi and Nokia's handling of things Maemo/Games. We're all frustrated about that, to be sure.
