The $59.99 Verizon Wireless data plan (US) also requires a voice plan on the same subscriber account. The bold print describes it as "Unlimited" usage, which the fine print defines as 5GB per month maximum. So forget about streaming those DVD movies.

Here in France the situation is also very bad for mobile data users. Most "plans" are ridiculously limited and/or overpriced.

The only individuals who actually benefit from a (non-corporate) unlimited data plan are the very few l33t geeks who subscribed to a limited Orange offer in the summer of 2005, for 50€/mo. There is, like, a black market for those, since Orange afterwards capped the traffic to 500MB/mo which makes it much less unlimited :-)

Blacklisted ports also come and go at the whim of the carrier. Moreover, until recently it was EDGE only, no 3G. An option for 3G users has just appeared on the Orange website (+4€/mo), but no one seems to know yet what sort of fine print it carries (or not)...
