I was excited when gnumeric for the N800 came out quickly. Since then, iI can find nothing about getting Abiword working.

Anyone know anything?

No? Nothing?

Bummer. I was looking forward to having a real word processor in my pocket.

As far as I'm aware I'm the only one working on AbiWord.

I've got a rather basic version of 2.4.6 built but the hildon patches against 2.4.0 are showing their age and are incompatible with 2.5.0, the current mainstream development release.

I'm working on 2.5.0 now for the 770: hopefully putting it on the 800 will not be a difficult exercise.

You have my gratitude and admiration.

Although 2.5 is still beta, isn't it? Is it close to release or at least pretty stable?

I had read that previously. The new features for handhelds are great. But I didn't see anything about how stable the beta is.

Never mind: I guess I'll be able to find out for myself soon. :-)

Aleksandyr:

Thanks again for your work on Abiword. I am using your most recent work on my (replacement) 770, and it works great, although I had to give it a push or two to get it reloaded (dependencies). . . I look forward to the update and are thankful that you haven't forgotten about those of us sticking with the 770! Thanks, Keith

Somewhere in november, he posted an entry that he had a working version of Abiword for the 770 and was looking for somewhere to park the installation files. Unfortunately, his blog never mentions where exactly those binaries are and I can't seem to get a comment posted on his site.

Ah, found the entry:

I'm somewhat embarassed to say this, but I created 2.4.6 packages and then entirely forgot about them. They introduce some new problems, unfortunately, and do not fix all that much that I can see. Will be released when I get home.

Being as I only own a 770, haven't the cash or motivation to buy an 800, and was not selected for the DDP, yes, I'll be developing for the 770 relatively exclusively for the forseeable future. I work on devices I own. I'm going to give the 800 port a shot, but if it requires heavy lifting...

2.5.0 is pretty stable according to my informal tests: it's important to get the Hildon UI working with 2.5.0 as the next release of AbiWord will be based off this source tree.

I just want to reaffirm my interest in (and appreciation of) any improvements to AbiWord for the 770 -- the Nokia I will be sticking with for the foreseeable future (and I probably could afford an N800 if I really wanted it!). I'm already using the earlier configuation of AbiWord, though, so it's not as if I've been without.
