What I want to do is add search-as-you-type to the main view. I don't really like expanding and collapsing nodes, as I tend to forget that a node is collapsed. It also does not fit the current interaction model (touching a node opens up the node view, how would you then expand and collapse a node?

We might be able to add proper "expand/collapse" graphics to the left of the list and use them to expand/collapse nodes, but I have not worked too much with trees in GtkTreeView (just lists), so it might take a while. I propose that for the first release, we leave everything expanded and then work on improving the UI/interaction from there.

    search-as-you-type would be awesome..

yea, leave it now.. it is very usable anyway and with kinetic scrolling its not to bad to scroll through loong lists.

    I like them! Some remarks:
    • The "line width" icon should probably have lines with different thicknesses that go in parallel with the bottom line so that the metaphor is clearer
    • The "background selection" icon is still missing. There should be three icons: empty (plain white), checkered and lined. Try out the different options in the current development version to get an idea how it looks.

Everything else looks perfect, and I'd like to integrate these changes. Also, it would be helpful if you could provide these icons and the application icon as SVGs (if available) and PNGs, so I can easily integrate them into the application. The application icon would be needed in 40x40, 26x26 and SVG. The other icons should be the default size (48x48 IIRC). Thanks

Edit: Oh, and maybe replace the triangle with a free-hand line, as we can't do triangles, and this might be misleading.

After testing it some more I got suggestions:

Make the default background dark dark grey or black (to fit Maemo5+ theme). Even on rich text and checklist nodes I personally think. White text and pen tool as default.

I would also like to see a hand tool for scrolling (test Xournal which does that very well). Then we can get rid of those scrollbars.. It is perfekt for Stylus use .. just point and drag.

Here is a mockup of dark grey and black screen for sketch:

    I like the black!

Looking really good. I noticed this comment on colors in apps and in particular backgrounds so that they work ok with different themes. It almost sounds like there is a palette you should use that's defined by the theme, so maybe that's something to consider.

Memopad+ was named like that because Memo Pad existed (it was a built in PalmOS PIM app). I don't think there was ever a Maemo Pad app. Memopad+ was an awesome improvement on Memo Pad, hence the fond memories of it lingering into 2010.
Maemopad was a demo app in the Maemo 4 SDK. I don't know whether Maemopad+ took any of its code, or just took inspiration from the name.

The app is crashy, and I still need to figure out why (I can't reproduce the bug when starting from the terminal, but it always "crashes" when started from Desktop shortcut or menu). It does not really "crash" per se (there's no core being produced), but somehow closes down. Maybe some ugly D-Bus magic going on there. I'll upload another .deb as soon as I get it in a more stable state (I don't want hate-mail from people who lost their precious checklists or artisty paintings because of that .
