I know there's a maemo page that has a similar theme, but it would be really useful for me (and perhaps others) if there was a thread here that listed fully working, non reboot-loop threatening apps/games/themes/any add-ons for 800, with any download details needed etc.

Also it might be great to have a place where developers/porters themselves could let us know which, if any, projects they are working on for the 800 and their current status/expected delivery?

For instance, I never got round to using Canola on 770 as I wasn't streaming media and didn't have much onboard - now I'd very much like to know if and when it will be ready for the 800.

cheers!

Why duplicate it here when the wiki page is so disastrous that any update there would surely be more productive?

Isn't there already a thread for this?

couldn't find an existing thread for this, which is why I posted it - if you can point me there that would be great!

"Why duplicate it here when the wiki page is so disastrous that any update there would surely be more productive?"

not in a postion to update it, and this forum is my (and I suspect many other 770 and 800 users) main source of information. the whole maemo site is a mess, apart from the "test" download page that is set up for single click downloads but which doesn't really do much at the moment

Why aren't you in a position to update it? If you're suggesting maintaining a list here, why can't you work on the list there?

are you having a bad day or something?

I wasn't offering to maintain a list, here or anywhere else, I was suggesting an ongoing single thread that could be something people looked at and saw announcemnets about things to add to their devices, either made by the makers of the sw themselves or people who were successfully using it.

But that's exactly what the wiki's for! I don't understand why, when there's already such an initiative started, you'd want to start another one?

Problems with the wiki:
  • Currently the OS2007_Tested_Applications page is a mess.
  • No structure can be enforced.

Problems with a thread here:
  • Duplication of existing work
  • Out-of-date information can't be corrected by anybody with better information
  • No structure can really be enforced, and it's not easy to read/search a long thread for a particular application.

As an author I'm already fed up of maintaining the same information in multiple places, or even worse - ensuring it's consistent.

Please don't duplicate effort which has already been done. Which, since you're weren't "offering to maintain a list, here or anywhere else" isn't much of an issue, is it?

fwiw, I'm with Andrew on this. Wiki is better than a thread for this.

The Maemo site is a very good source for the latest information on so many application developments! (Nokia 770 and N800)

If we were all more thoughtful and added our usage experience into the Wiki I a sure it would help everyone in the long run. So much information is lost under the weight of posts in the InterntTabletTalk forum.

For example:-

Here is some detailed information in the maemo wiki about OS2007 on the Nokia 770 "hacker edition" http://maemo.org/maemowiki/Os2007On770

Here is recent Gustavo blog info about "Canola 1.0 beta2" for the Nokia 770 which includes a snippet about a video playback issue with the N800 http://blog.gustavobarbieri.com.br/2...-almost-there/

And here Ari Jaaksi provides http://jaaksi.blogspot.com/2007/01/status-report.html blog thread via planet maemo which included a reference to a test version of Maemo which for improved search and download facility of internet tablet applications running on different OS Versions i.e. http://test.maemo.org/applications/multimedia/It's not finished but it looks very promising in my humble opinion.

All the above items were found via maemo.org

So I suppose the real question we should all ask ourselves is how can we be more helpful in helping each other? Perhaps blogging in the InternetTabletTalk forum about every thought we have is not the most productive way forward?
