disq, according to this mailing list message announcing the release of 1.50 of rdesktop, it has basic support for Vista Beta 2. That was almost half a year ago. I would bet that if you compiled a more recent version from CVS, Vista support would probably be pretty solid by now.

I just built the 1.5 stable release on my Ubuntu Edgy box and can verify that it does connect and seem to work fine with a computer running Vista Ultimate. It seems that 1.5 also supports some pretty cool features that let you run an individual app from off the remote server, a bit like Citrix or X. They are calling it "Seamless RDP." This would be a really cool way to run applications like Firefox, Thunderbird, or just about anything on the N800. It would really fill in some missing functionality. This is just way cool!

What version of rdesktop are you currently building against/have adapted?

Well, I installed the new rdesktop, and configured it, but I can't see how to launch the client app and can't find any docs on it, either.

???

EDIT: nevermind, I figured out I needed to launch it from xterm (rdesktop <server>). Of course, now I get an error that says "unable to resolve host".

*sigh*

rocketman: 1.4.1. it's the version simon worked on porting.

texrat: just shouldn't happen. 770 or n800? firmware version? it should just have a menuitem in the extras menu and work.

The device was an N800, and I can't divulge the firmware version (sorry) as it's unreleased.

I get the application up ok from the icon in Extras, but after entering the data and pressing OK the app closes and that's it. I came to the assumption that I was simply seeing the configuration and so looked into it further, where I found that executing rdesktop from a command line was the solution. However, I receive the error I mentioned. I tried various permutations of the settings to no effect.

I'll try it on other firmware builds.

I got it working on the release n800 firmware from the program menu.

My wishlist is zoom and fullscreen/windowed from the hw buttons, connection phonebook, and tap-and-hold for the right mouse button. It seems vry stable and quick, much faster than the Mac RDC client.

I had no issues installing (from the .deb file on Maemo Garage) or running it on my n800 with the latest released firmware. I did notice that netbios name resolution doesn't work and just causes the program to disappear, so you have to remember the ips of machines on your network. I didn't try any FQDN's, though.

Rocket, are you leaving the domain field blank?

EDIT: tried it at home on N800, firmware build 2.2006.51-6, connecting to xp 64 pc. Tried pc name and IP address both; program behaves the same: just shuts down after pressing OK. There's currently no domain per se, just a router.

EDIT 2: checked in xterm; the error here at home is "connection refused". I know I have the credentials correct, sooo...???

I downloaded the .DEB, installed it, went to Extras and Rdesktop. It opens, asks for the server details and I type in the IP address of my server (in this case, XP Pro 32 bit), user name and password and click OK.

I don't have anything special installed but I'll run down my list in case something is a dependency that isn't being asked for:

canola 1.0.1-1
flite 1.3
godmode 1.0
libncurses5 5.4-4
maemo-mapper 1.4.2-5
maemopad 1.5
mplayer 1.0rc1-maemo.10
ncurses-base 5.4-4
omweather 0.16
osso-xterm 0.13 (I need to upgrade this, it doesn't handle backspaces)
proj 4.4.9-3
rdesktop 0.3a
system-monitor-plugin 1.2
vncviewer 0.6

And that's it. The firmware is 2.2006.51-6 and is a fresh reinstall from a weekago because my Bluetooth got trashed.

I've been quitting out of the app from the client side but I forgot that you can go to the start menu and choose Disconnect.

Even mapping the MMC card as a network share works well.

Edit: Rdesktop doesn't like the N800 going to sleep, hangs the connection and requires a reboot. I wish they made the battery easier to remove or the unit harder to freeze up!
