I'm having a really annoying problem with the new N900 I got after the original I bought broke:
If I go the phone settings and change mode from 3G to GSM and save the settings, absolutely nothing happens! And when I go back to the phone settings, the mode is still 3G.I live in an area that doesn't have good 3G coverage, so I would like to keep the phone in GSM mode when I'm home (and as I always use WLAN at home there's no need for 3G) Has anybody had these kind of problems? (FYI: I have the the latest firmware installed and this problem was present before I installed anything extra apps on the phone) |

Maybe your mobile provider only supports 3G coverage. What is your mobile provider?

So I'm thinking it's something in the phone... |

Can't imagine anything for solving your problem... Have you tried the 3g/2g applet? Have a look here: http://maemo.org/downloads/product/M...ection-applet/ Maybe it can help, give it a try. Someone, according to this bug, has problems in switching network mode if network selection is on Automatic. Seems a different problem than yours, but it might worth the try. |

I had no problem.
When I was in Hong Kong 2 weeks ago, one day the stupid 3HK had their 3G network down, couldn't connect to the data. After hours of frustration, I tried to switch it to 2G only and bingo, data connected and got my email and IM working. |

Are you sure you don't have data connection on? The mode cannot be changed if data connection is on. And yes, Elisa should have GSM all over the country. GSM works for me, I'm using Elisa's network too.

And I have tried both Automatic and Manual network selection modes. I'm not sure if there is something else wrong with this phone since it had the FM transmitter disabled when I got it....the previous N900 had it enabled. EDIT: Whether the data connection is on or off doesn't seem to matter, either way the mode change is not working... Last edited by Xizor; 2010-02-03 at 15:52. |

You should try to flash it with latest firmware.

Yes, I know that is the last option...just hoping I could avoid it since I already have the latest firmware and I don't like to spend half a weekend installing all the apps again.
