The error with the spreadsheet result given to you by JonWW is being caused because the country lookup table in Sheet1 has a space after each country code, which is giving odd results. Remove the spaces from after each country code in Sheet1, and itll output the correct lookup results.

The vlookup uses the 2nd sheet as a source table. Syntax of vlookup is as follows:
=VLOOKUP(A2,LookupTable!$A$2:$B$256,2,FALSE)
1st: Item to look up
2nd: Location of lookup table (note the $ syntax to stop the table moving if you move or drag the result cell)
3rd: Which coloum to return from the lookup table
4th: Allow loose matching...

Well, now I have a conundrum. JonWW almost nailed it, nid0 provided insight and a quick and dirty answer, and bobnova gave me a working solution and instructions.
Also, if you'll be so kind as to briefly explain to me how to use it on a much more complicated spreadsheet, that would be great. The columns of interest are identical, though.

As for the sample data, here's some butchered/anonymized data that you could play with if you are so inclined. The column of interest is "shipping country".
