I have followed to the letter everything posted here on installing GAIM on my N800. I have GAIM and all of the corresponding files listed in the application manager now but I am still getting the libxau0 missing error. I installed maemo mapper as some suggested but that did not work. Where do I go from here??? I really need this app on my N800.

ok, I get it now. You have to change the http://maemo-hackers.org/apt repository... Mine was still set to 'bora', so I changed it to 'mistral' and it worked. But have some gaim stability issue though.

I got it working also.....not through anyone here helping, but sheer determination. I notice this site has little tolerance for noobs. Weren't you all "internet tablet" noobs at one time?

Can someone explain this a little bit in depth? I am using N800 with latest software version OS 2007 edition v. 2.2006.51-6

The problem is that when I go into Applications Manager I only see two buttons that say Show installed applications and Browse installable applications ....

There's also one button that says Check for updates......

However, where in the world do I input the information provided on this thread to install GAIM?

The tab on top that has a down arrow and says "Application Manager" will give you a drop down menu, select "tools" then "Application catalog" and you can install the repositories. The Web Address, Distribution, and Components have to be exact ... no typos.

Hi.

Let me jump in here. I just bought an N800. I'm now trying to install GAIM through the maemo-hackers.org repo. Not successfully yet, which is why I need help here.

I followed the instructions here and was able to install the following three components:

maemo-gaim
maemo-gaim-data
maemo-gaim-protocol-msn

I took them from the Maemo-Hackers repo as follows:

Web address: http://maemo-hackers.org/apt
Distribution: bora
Components: main

Now, however, I can't seem to log onto my MSN account using GAIM. I can add a new account, but once I hit "Sign On," I first get an error message saying something like "Necessary protocol missing." The second time I hit "Sign On," the screen sits there forever, apparently doing nothing.

I'd appreciate anyone giving me pointers for how to go about this problem.

Thanks,
Dai
