    Situation:

Received an authz request from an unknown contact or received an IM message from unknown contact.

It should be possible to lookup information for the unknown IM contact and eventually add it to the contact list without writing it down and typing it back in.

Andre Klapper has raised the following questions in MR 8994

How would this be displayed? Which information should be exactly displayed,
plus which information is available (are the programmer API interfaces for this
offered by Google Talk, ICQ, MSN, etc etc)? Or for example for ICQ just a link
    to http://people.icq.com/people/about_me.php?uin=xxxxxxxxx ?
Do you know of any existing chat applications that offer this already?

Also, often auth requests can already contain a line added by the sender...
I have been using Trillian IM client on my laptop. Protocol-wise, I only use ICQ, so I don't know what options other IM protocols offer in the area of contact info querying. Anyway, the situation with an unknown contacts is the following: If I recieve an authorization request or a message from an unknown sender, I have the options to get the contact information and to add the contact to my list. Trillian displays quite detailed contact information in the form of a dedicated window.

As far as the implementation of the above in the maemo Conversations client is concerned, it could be quite lightweight. A link to http://people.icq.com/people/about_me.php?uin=xxxxxxxxx plus "add contact" and "merge contact" buttons would certainly do. As I proposed in my solution 1, there is even a simpler way: Just allow to copy the contact ID to the clipboard. Adding this functionality should be pretty easy and it allows the user to query the contact info on the web or to add the contact ID to the contact list.

    My original request in bugzilla:

@Andre: thank you for taking my input into the consideration and explaining the whereabouts of the maemo site. I very much appreciate the work of the maemo community and it is really cool that this user-developer feedback is possible.

As this is the best fitting thread I could find, I will just revive this one.
    Just a quick question, anyway:

I seem to be unable to send an authorization request (ICQ, Jabber) to ask another user to authirize ones account using the built in IM feature. Can somebody tell me how to do that?

    Thanks,
    Corwin
