This is strange. Mine sync but deleted all contacts on the phone except those that are on both the phone and my gmail. This is very painful. There must be something wrong with this google sync.

You have to check the settings, I think it defaults to replace all phone contacts with your GMail contacts.

What setting? Isn't it supposed to copy contacts from the to gmail and vise versa?

For google sync try http://nuevasync.com/

It offers a free google sync exchange server that you can use with MFE, I've had very little luck with m.google.com but nuevasync just works!

I was able to pull all my info(contacts, email, and calender) with that same instructions and I also made sure that the IMAP setting was selected in my settings. Everything worked fine on the first sync, but I believe it never presented my last sync time(even though my contacts were clearly there). After reading that Gmail wasn't officially supported and that it was extremely touchy, so I backed up my data ASAP. I've since removed the Mail for Exchange settings and I'm just using the email app to get my Gmail, and everything has been fine on the phones end since. I'm also not certain if the changes are going back to my Gmail though, so I probably should take a look at that.

Alright fellas,

I went thru the same problem as you guys but succeeded today When i first setup MFE about a week ago, I only did calender and its been doing that successfully for a week now. I just read the 1st post and just decided to do the contacts and "Woah", took 5 seconds and had all the contacts over even though they initially failed when syncing along with calender in the first place.

Try to get the calender working first and then go to settings and do contacts. I synced at 11:58am for contacts so try to do it during the day.

Also, no need for a 3rd party syncing software when MFE works. I bought mine on March 5th, so you can tell that I am new but sync will it work. It did fail 5 times when I tried to set it up all at once so do one thing at a time.

MFE settings:

server: m.google.com
port: 443

sec. connection
username: xy (i dont have @gmail.com, only username)
pw: **********
domain: blank

leave email sync unchecked

calender default settings and task + contacts

SAVE

NOW remember, that if you previously synced or it succeeded it wont re-sync when you start MFE from scratch. Therefore, you need to delete the calender that is n900. You can delete by opening calender and going to settings>edit calender>delete n900.

I really hope that helped. I feel very lucky that the contacts worked lol.

UPDATE: Contacts not syncing again. Its pretty much a hit and a miss situation here.

If you don't mind living on the edge (i.e. extras-devel), give Loreleis Erming a chance for calendar. It can sync multiple google calendars to multiple N900 calendars. Its in alpha right now but the basic functionality is pretty solid so far. Its a manual sync but apparently scheduled syncing is on its way sometime.
