I can display the gif image:

if I save it and select it from the file manager.

In the picture overview it gets a "broken image" icon and you cannot select it from the overview.

I cannot view animated gifs: they are shown static if I select them in the file manager and also get the "broken image" icon in the overview.
Only MicroB shows them animated.

I tried and it works.
.......or simply install imagemagick from repos and run in terminal
animate yourfilename.gif

I don't really get it...

Windows XP was the last windows that supports GIF in native picture browser.

I now run the lastest Win8, and guess what 2013 and NO GIF!

This is exactly what I think happend with the N900 and even newer models with Android, Windows, etc.

Also, would like to request a plugin for native picture view with GIF codec.
