Hello, new to the forums, with a stupid question for you guys (or mayby not) i've searched to forums a bit.

Now

Songbird

awesome, easy, and a big F you to nokia for not having ovi/pc suite support, i was choked after forking $800 for there device. with that said wicked phone, crappy support.

ive had a 1tb external crash and dvd burner crash, while looking for alternatives to sync/convert videos onto my nokia n900.... PC? possibly infected to the tits with malware/spyware from trying to find a solution, but i cant reinstall windows till i get the drive sorted. SO

what formats are ACTUALLY supported by the n900 (lots of mp4 conversions arent reading), which softwares do you guys use for syncing and converting?

thats for reading the blog, Im one step awayfrom putting all my electronics into a trash compacter.

Conversions can be done using handbrake. See the wiki here and here.

If you're having problems with codecs, you might want to install extra-decoders from here.

I've had maybe 2 files out of 200 fail to be played by my N900.

I think Extra Decoders is the key. I've put crappy DVDRips, terrible YouTube rips, mp4's, .avi's pracitally anything and everything on this baby. All play like a dream.

As for formats, mp4 and avi are atleast supported out of the box.

As for audio codecs, aac and mp3 are probably good choices.

As for video codecs, mpeg4 asp (xvid, divx) without qpel and gmc works. Also avoid "packed b-frames". Files actually play with qpel and packed bframes, but files with qpel show garbage around movement, and packed bframes drops frames. Packed bframes are a standards violation and most software warns, or should warn about using it.
H264 Baseline Profile also works. Main and High profile are unsupported. For all Video, the resolution must be no larger than 800x480.
