This is a really excellent script. I've been meaning to develop something like this for a while. I would suggest adding an autofocus function for the video mode, which doesn't refocus while recording. Hopefully this can be put in extras devel soon so people can easily get updates..

Is there any documentation for this v4l2-ctl command line program? I see an autofocus ioctl in the v4l2 spec, but get "unknown control 'focus_auto'" when I try to use it to set autofocus.
