Through contacts you also have that one window to see who is online, just go to all contacts then open the menu and press groups
then you can choose to see msn only and you will have a list of your msn buddies

Anyone with this issue ?
That's the first time I hear about that problem. My guess is that the bug is in haze (msn-pecan uses it too), so if you use telepathy-haze you'll probably have the same problem.

Will investigate though.

works on t-mobile NL (cheapest and slowest 384 kbps, with unlimited data on 2g AND 3g) and any wifi. I am convinced a working msn has NOTHING to do with a dataplan. You can check this using a wifi connection temporarily.

Problem: MSN (Pecan) worked for months, and suddenly it doesnt so i found a new solution for me:

I removed all software related to pidgin and msn, then EXCLUSIVELY installed pidgin extra protocols plugin (0.10 2,47 MB in Maemo Extras-devel, and not ANYTHING else with msn or pidgin in the name!) which installs telepathy-haze (0.3.5-1maemo0) automatically as dependency. So (even without rebooting) then you create new account in 'settings -> connectivity -> voip and im accounts' where you can now choose MSN (Haze) and now it is enabled on wifi and 2g and 3g (5 kbps vs 40 kbps in my situation)!

So now i got enabled: gmail+skype+msn(haze)+sip(voipbuster)+yahoo+jabber (=facebookchat)
NO NEED to go to a larger data plan! I just pay EUR 5 per month.
Also: it does not matter if i choose to be on wifi or 2g or 3g T-Mobile

(Note: to remove all software related to pidgin go to application manager -> uninstall -> start typing 'pidgin' then you will see all software related to pidgin so you can remove 1 by 1. Do the same for msn. Make sure to enable catalogues 'Maemo Extras' and 'Maemo Extras-devel' and 'Maemo Extras-testing')

My n900 uses the power kernel 2.6.28.10power46 #1 PREEMPT

This also works on my second n900 where i still use the regular kernel + update PR1.3: 2.6.28-omap1 #1 PREEMPT. 'Pidgin protocols plugin for conversations and contacts' installed, pidgin application is installed (2.7.7-0nix2 4,8 MB), pidgin extra protocols (bonjour and sametime) is a dependency of 'pidgin protocols plugin for converstations and contacts'. MSN Haze works 'enabled', and yahoo im!

rogierrr thanks for telling me haze is working. I didn't uninstall pecan, just disable it, and install the haze like that:

Code:
apt-get install account-plugin-haze
Best of all haze can see the msn history you've been using in pecan.

@9000: can you please tell me in what repository is account-plugin-haze? And what dependencies belong to it?

I dont want to leave all my 12 repositories enabled all the time ;-)

BTW, why not uninstall pecan completely?

@rogierrr

It's in extras-devel: http://maemo.org/packages/view/account-plugin-haze/

Actually you don't need to uninstall other plugins for others to work probably, hypothetically. Otherwise, you wouldn't get that many IM working for you, right?

I am very sorry to notice that my MSN Haze stopped working last week. I didnt try to reinstall the entire thing, but it looks like Pecan and Haze just stop working after 4 weeks.

When i try to set it online it refuses immediately (not after 10 seconds or so): 'Network error' on grps0 and wlan0 so i guess it must be a problem in my OS or in the msn-server.

update: i forwarded my 3g internet through Mobile Hotspot to me second n900 that still runs the regular kernel (not enhanced kernel for power users). On that n900 i had installed the same MSN Haze and it works!

So now i have one working, and one not working on the same internet connection. I dont know why the first one is not working ....
