Device Lock : Great feature i've always used for obvious reason on previous Nokia's, alongside sim lock. However on the N900 if the screen is touched when in device lock mode not only can it prompt you for the lock code it can prompt you to turn the phone off.
On a small number of occasions i've taken the phone out've my pocket only to find it switched off. After initially thinking 'hmmmm, surely not crashed' i realised the turn off opton must be popping up when the phone is in my pocket and if the yes option happens to be caught then bingo...the phone switches itself off.
Surely when in the device lock mode we only need it to promp for the device lock code and nothing else For certain if that was the case it wouldn't be succeptable to switching itself off.
Could do with a hack to disable this switch off option.
If you pocket case has a magnetic clamps you may have a problem because KBD sensor is magnetic.
Fair point (and bug #6689 for anyone that is interested) but assuming that is the reason for the device unlocking the solution is not to disable the "Switch off" option but to optionally disable the keyboard open magnetic sensor. Being able to accidentally power off a device that has been inadvertently unlocked by a belt clip magnet is just one more reason why bug 6689 should be fixed.
Aside from that, I'm still not sure what is wrong with the secured device "Switch off" option... the only way to get to that state is by unlocking the device screen/keyboard, which is usually hard to do when it is in a magnet-free pocket.
As for screen lock i've used and yes it prevents the switch off. However i just prefered the one stage, pull out've pocket option, tap screen and then enter device lock code.
When 'screen lock' and 'device lockl is used it's two stage pull out've pocket, press on/off button, swipe to unlock THEN enter the device lock code. If the swipe to unlock appeared without having to hit the on/off button it would be better.
Yes using screen lock also prevents switch off but why do we have to set up two stages of unlocking just to avoid this unwanted switch off.
As for the 'Switch off' option only appearing after unlocking thats not the case here. On the device being locked, with keyboad cosed, I get the option to enter the device lock code when the screen is touched. If however you touch the upper area of the screen before entering the code the 'Switch off' yes or no option appears.
If this happens whilst in the pocket....and the yes option bobs up and pocket movment can turn the device off.
Quite simply i use the coded device lock mode for obvious reasons and for me the switch off option during the device lock mode is illogical. Leave that to the main on off swich or at least dont allow it to appear in the dev lock code entry screen.
Of course not a major issue that devalues the device but one've those pain in the arse things when it happens.

Indeed it is fairly illogical that a function one really never needs is available so promptly. it would be easy to take out here. As I can conceive of no reason why it should be here.
I'm also interested in getting this 'feature' removed. I Secure Device all the time, and I have it auto-securing after 10 minutes anyway. I've managed to switch off my N900 more than once this way - as Astute points out, it's not a deal-breaker, but I'd love it to be gone nonetheless. Also 'Switch off!' option on the system menu is worse than worthless for me (anyone know why it's needed or useful?) as I've once or twice slipped and tapped it instead of 'Secure Device' or 'Silent'.
Neither this thread nor the other one I found on this topic has any insight into why this is needed, or what we could do to remove it. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 'Switch off device?' functionality is deep within a closed-source binary - can anyone comment?
Is there any way we can disable this dialogue? I'm willing to put in technical work/analysis/testing if someone can point me in the right direction, but my expertise is not in this area so I'm not too sure where to start.
While we're on the topic: it'd be nice to have basic Media Player controls and the time on the Secure Device screen. Anyone agree (or disagree)? I'm aware of the [awesome] work qwerty12 did, but that's not really what I'm after.
