Open up the terminal and use the commands 'ping' and 'ifconfig'.

For ping you need to be root btw
and for ifconfig run /sbin/ifconfig (or just run as root)

And to gather all the information :
------------------------------------------
1. If you need a command line ipconfig tool, you have the normal ifconfig command which exists on most linux distros if not all.
To run it, open a terminal, (Applications > Terminal) and type : /sbin/ifconfig - This requires the full path since /sbin is not in the path for the none root user.
2. If you are root, (Installed chroot from extras-something) you can just use ifconfig normally. The help for the ifconfig command exists in google. it's a very standard command.

For Ping :
------------
1. Again functionaly that already exists but you need to be root in order to use it, to be root look below :
2. Using the app. manager, install rootsh.
3. After it's installed, open a terminal (Applications > Terminal) and type : "sudo gainroot", this will get you into root mode. Now you can type "ping www.google.com"

Good Luck.

Hmmmm.

The error you got after typing "sudo gainroot" mean that you did not gain root To check you can always type "whoami"
if it says root, then you are root.

Anyway, follow this steps (they are the only ones i can offer)
1. Reboot the phone if you have not tried it after install easy chrooot, and try using "sudo gainroot" again.
2. If that doesn't work still, install open-ssh-server from app. manager, it will ask for a password along the installation.
3. After it finished, try again the sudo gainroot.
4. Open ssh server allows you to connect to you phone via USB (if configured correctly) or wifi using ssh client from you PC and it will be much more fun to work on your phone that way.

Hope this helps.

Oops, thx hcm, I confused chroot with rootsh.
Edited and corrected my post.

In order to use ipconfig you follow what I already wrote above.
