you may be aware of that but this is what I found about kexec on N900 and it seems to be possible to use it: http://wiki.meego.com/ARM/Meego_kexec_install_on_N900
I hope it will be usefull and I presume that it will be easier to compile an "android kernel" for the n900 than using the maemo kernel to boot android and having all the drivers working.

While you're at it, AKA flashing, just run flasher-3.5 --disable-rd-mode
And your N900 will be out of R&D mode.
RE the App store issue, mine filled up to about 3/5 at first, then after reboot it got to 100%. Maybe you should wait a while?

I think that you just have to reflash the kernel with pr1.2. No need to reflash rom and emmc
