have you consider that not everybody knows how to put up a wiki?

Now this responce I agee with. An answer to follow.
My last comment was do to with you commenting on the new user reply but no comment on N901 which was not called for. I would have given a similar responce to N901. His comment was not called for.

True. Word barely is quite subjective, but what I would first do is to speed read this:
    http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39753
By speed reading I mean just read really those that look relevant. Might be hard to spot but it's good skill to learn. Bit like doing research for your thesis or something like that.

    And more stuff from here:
    http://wiki.maemo.org/Overclocking

    And just general note:
    - If you feel like you are typing commands to xterm like monkey and not really understanding what you are doing then stop. You are not ready do some more research and think.

I haven't overclocked my n900. Maybe after year or so when i have seen enough results in here.

It is NOT being selfish by advising someone not to do something.

It would be selfish if this was said "Yeah, f*** it overclock your device everything will be ok - everyone else is doing it"

The repercussions of overclocking the n900 are not fully understood.

The only that is trying to be deprived is ending up with a bricked device.

Maybe it's just me but that would mean your device is in a worse state.

Maybe you can get away with overclocking the n900 and everything will be fine - Nobody knows the long-term effects of overclocking the n900 yet.

so you think a "noob" is able to do rational choices to overclock or not to overclock with insufficient background data?

Reeeeto! i'm a noob and i've overclocked to 900Mhz and i don't think i could go back to stock now? My phone is rapid now, its how it should be as i always thought it was a bit slow at doin stuff. Look at this link....

    http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=774

Its for noobs like me and i understand it and i understand the risks but i don't do an awfull lot with my phone so i'm confident my phone will be safe for as long as i own it. Just don't be greedy by overclocking as much as its possible? My choice is "lv and limits 500 900" I honestly can't believe the difference its made, its fast and copes with certain websites easily now. Go for it i say because it is reversable if u s**t yourself afterwords and the best bit is no pc required!!

    Hi Pros & noobs alike
I got an interesting(?) problem that I need help with. I did check the oc info page- thanks alot for posting the links you guys..
It goes like this.. I canīt get through the 1.3 fw update and wonder if itīs cos the fw version disappeared from "About Product"?
Following the instructions from oc page- I get 2 deadends in x-terminal, 1st: "E: Could not open lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock - (13 Permission denied)" and 2nd when trying 002 generic code: "Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpk/), are you root?"

Can someone point me to another helpful link or explain this to me in laymanīs terms please? Thanks and itīs Saturday again cheers!
