I am new to the whole linux experience, I dabbled in it a bit before I got my n900, and I have grown to love linux and can fully operate and understand the OS to a satisfactory level I think.

I have been noticing everyone worrying about the new platforms to be released, and I had been noticing certain things about maemo or just linux in general I favor over other OS's, like I tear down and build up my OS's often and with mameo the back up feature is nice, it goes out retrieve all your installed packages and data and restores it back to how you had it.

I think that if someone could develop a system like this for those who plan to jump from maemo 5 to 6 or meego that would be too neat, maybe not settings and setup, but if everything is suppose to be qt compatible if you could import all your data as well as apps to the new platform that would be awesome. I am sure someone can/will create some type of software to do it..

just thinking out loud here

That's a good idea.

Before you upgrade to MeeGo you can download an app which will backup all your contacts, bookmarks. The it will see what apps you have installed then create a list of what is installed.

You can then install MeeGo download the app and then restore all your stuff back. Maybe check that each backed-up app is compatible before the app is restored.

Nice idea.

Exactly, I was hoping I made sense with my statement. But that is my idea exactly, that would be something great for developers to tackle. I gotta learn the language so I can maybe one day develop things myself
