hey guys so ive owned my n900 for a few months now and loving it and after letting my brother take a look at it he decided that it would be the perfect upgrade for him so he popped into the cpw and started the upgrade process. However he got to half way through doing it when the sales assistant said he couldn't upgrade on the day in question however he could the following week and asked him if he still wanted the n900 and he said yes.

A few days later he got a call from them saying his phone was now ready for collection however it would be the Nokia N900 version 2. when he got to the store they told him that the wrong phone had been delivered and he would have to wait a few days longer. Reluctantly he said fine and went on to ask the difference between version 1 and 2 and the sales assistant didnt have a clue.

He has asked me about it and i thought id just put the feelers out so Is there a new version of our beloved beast out there if so has anything changed. Or is my brother just being fobbed off by the cpw.

Cheers in advance.

Initial thoughts are that this is bs. CPW waiting for new stock seeing as they seem to have sold out everywhere right now.

Can't imagine why there would be a v2.0 of the device.

USB-port problems?
USB OTG and digital compass would be wished "small" hw changes also.

They might refer to the default firmware, e.g. version 2 could mean a PR1.1 by default

i agree awith attila, most likely firmware.

So far there are 2 types of hardware revision, pre-production models, and production models.
Very interested to see if he does get a newer model though - Healthcheck will tell you the revision number

It is possible it's simply a minor hardware revision with a few manufacturing improvements. Nokia regularly improve their manufacturing process for phones with minor defects to correct them, it's perfectly possible that theyre now producing N900's with a stronger USB connector, a stronger connector for the phone speaker, and other minor tweaks.
If they have produced a new revision though, there will be no functional differences whatsoever, and usually no obvious way to tell the difference between each revision.

BS if It was a new model this community runs way to deep to let a sales rep break what would be huge news for n900.

In what possible way would it be "huge" news? Minor hardware revisions of phones with small manufacturing process improvements come along all the time, in most cases people don't even know theres any difference.
