Everyone is saying how Easy Debian and other ways to run Debian on N900 devices opens up a world of desktop like applications. Although this statement is true IMO, I haven't found a topic or anything similar on maemo.org wich adresses the optional working apps you can download via the debian application manager.

Not all packages work, or can be installed. My aim is to get a clear view of what is possible with debian applications on the n900 (easy debian). In short: Wich apps work, wich are cool to use, wich are recommended to have on your N900?

I don't ask of you to go and test them all out, but clearly there has to be some people who have tried installing additional apps on debian on N900 who can share their experiences here. I am especially interested in games, since maemo doesen't have enaugh good ones. Share your experiences please!

Note: I am not a hardcore-tech user of N900, so when tinkering with my device I do my homework first (and see how others got it done)

Edit:

Working apps:

- All pre-integrated apps (with exception of the Word equation editor, you have to downgrade to v.2.6 in order toget it working)
- bibletime
- gnomesword2
- Netbeans
- Kile
- Inkscape
- Abiword
- Gnumeric
- Dia
- Rlplot
- Nicotine
- Pdfchain
- more to come...

Yeah, I'd appreciate that too. I have been playing around with easy debian a little bit but really dont know what to use it for except for open office.

Easydebian comes with openoffice 3. but in order to get the equation editor to work you need to downgrade it to version 2.4.

Tried to install "kontact", but the most important component - kmail - does not work.

Error message is "libkmailpart.la not found" (maybe anyone has an idea)

i'm also missing some dokus/hints for getting some things to work.

I sure hope to see some games working Surely debian helped me with the amazing openoffice and gimp too! I'm sure this is just the top of the iceberg of potential this software has.

Maybe slightly off topic, but is there a easy way in synaptic to view all installed packages?
I once installed a few things and broke virtual easy-deb and i'd rather not reinstall the virtuall machine all over again (but just deinstall latest packages)

Update: Using karmic-rootfs on 5gb-partition on internal eMMC:
Netbeans, Kile, Gimp, Inkscape, Abiword, Gnumeric and Dia as before.

Update: Anjuta, Eclipse, Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice, Synaptic, Scribus, Qt-Creator, Filezilla, F-Spot and many audio apps still no sound...
More Screenshots: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=627

Is there any open GL_es wrapper available or have the applications to be recompiled?
