Hello all,

So after I started playing with some HDR picture stuff on my n900, i realized that my hand steadyness sucks, I should probably cut down on the caffeine, but in the mean time i went on the lookout for a little tripod.

I came across a few posts,
some referring to the discontinued nokia DT-22, as well as the a few replacements.

Those were either sold out, or located in europe/UK and probably close to 40$ after shipping.

So I went on the lookout for another one and found this on amazon.
Im cheapo, so i opted for the "slightly used" one for 4.99, with 4.99 shipping. Ive been burned with this kinda tripod before, so i was rather hesitant to buy it. To help out some others i figured i would tell everyone about my experience.

So first off, this is certainly not a high class tripod, but it gets the job done. It has a "locking ball bearing", which makes the whole thing stable when the phone is horizontal. My previous mini-tripod didnt have this feature, making it impossible to tighten down the head.
(EDIT: after closer examination the locking bearing is actually just coated with plastic, but no matter what it works well and supports the weight of the phone)
Overall it is sturdier than i had expected and folds up very compact. The clamping mechanism moves smoothly with the turn of a little knob and is also detachable from the rest of the tripod.
However there is a slight problem with the position of the fingers that hold the phone. If the clamp grabs the left side of the phone, the top finger constantly presses the zoom button. A similar problem arises when the phone is held from the right, constantly holding the camera button. But if the clamping finger is just to the right of the camera button it provides a secure hold. (see the 3rd pic)

I was in REI browsing the other day and saw that there is a gorillapod with an iPhone-targeted clamping mechanism. Has anyone used one of these successfully with an N900?

Yea definitely, i cant say i use it every day, but its held up a few times for group photos and some macro&hdr pics.
I let my buddy borrow it for some filming he did with this nexus one.. worked great for him aswell.

Its definitely not heavy duty, but the plastic parts have held up better than expected
