The good news are that Nokia improved hildon-home in PR1.2. You still need to recompile it to support more than 4 views, but now (with small changes) you can enable/disable all views and select the background from the GUI.
That is good news!
Your method (and thnaks for all the effort) never worked 4 me and just made my cell loop at power up!
So reinstall everything right now!
