You could say that it's service pack 1 for N900.

It is the update that superseeds PR 1.1 and is followed by PR 1.3.
The thread about it is mainly one big joke as this is an update like any other update. Bugfixes and enhancements.

I'm currently waiting for version 2.5 of my Kindle software. There isn't any frenzy about it, because Amazon has announced it will be available for general release at the end of May.

Nokia, in its infinite wisdom, won't give out that kind of information, so people show up here every day and discuss whether 1.2 is available yet. It would not be important at all if Nokia gave a firm day for its release.

As it is, lots of people want one of its features or another and every day are getting their N900s ready for the upgrade by minimizing the number of programs they run and making space, and thinking about how the changes will affect them.

Nokia plans things so its users are in a permanent frenzy. They actually don't plan for the users to be in a frenzy, but the way they plan things PUTS the users in a permanent frenzy. This is not particularly good for Nokia, but they don't seem to care. It is kind of interesting for users, as if the circus was always in town.

No instead they would just get plenty of angry users if they missed the update date (see launch of N900).
