    VERY interesting indeed.

So now there is super high possibility that the leaked fw is the HK version.

And it was leaked just after the HK release was made. However we don't know what the intentions of the leaker are. They could have seen the HK release and changed the version number to match to make it look like it's just the same version.

I realise this sounds alarmist and hopefully I'm wrong, but you just can't be sure when we have no idea where it came from.

As far as I understand the leak doesn't have chinese language, therefore can't be the HK version.

I mean honestly.. if you're a Nokia employee and you want to "get back" at the company, or "support open source!", or whatever misguided ideological philosophy this guy was operating under - wouldn't you release the latest build? Why a month old one?
Yep, impeccable logic, but unlikely. I'm willing to bet $100 that this firmware was not maliciously manipulated by a disgruntled Nokia employee and that no proof of same emerges within the next five years. If you would like to take the other side of the bet, email me at geneven@rocketmail.com and we can make the wager!

I hope the video framerate is fixed. Videos stutter more than with PR1.1 and there is a weird pause when pressing the record button that you can SEE at the beginning of your video. I was hoping the video would record AFTER the pause.....but no. I can't wait for the official release because I like the improvements. Oh, also, the thumbnails in the media player update each time you watch a video so now you can see where you left off in a movie before clicking on it. Nice, yet confusing at first, couldnt find Transformers 2 since I didnt see the usual thumbnail.....

I LOVE being able to lower the volume in the browser....no more emergency CTRL+Backspace+Volume Key combos and long pressing keys to get the same result as the Function Arrow+Key is a welcomed addition. The Ovi Maps GPS lock is the fastest that I have seen on any GPS device.

I've already said it's unlikely. Also wanted to make sure people understand the risks.

This is completely missing the point, I would happily double that wager, chances are it is malware free and I could get by losing 200$ but I don't know it is safe. If I claim it is safe and you believe some random idiot like me on a forum then you are asking for trouble.

I personally would happily try this firmware as my N900 is a second phone for me but I dont feel the need, I know the official release will come when it's ready. I expect I could upgrade to the final release if I did so but I will not try to convince anyone else to do so, they should weigh up the risks/benefits themselves and act accordingly.

I just hope when they do so that they think about which advice they should trust and don't blame anyone but themselves if it goes wrong.

Warnings are great because it transfers liability to the user of such warning riddled software/products and NOT the originator of the same. It will be the fault of every person that installed PR1.2L if any loss occurs with their N900 that can be attributed to this software. I took the $600 risk and flashed it and I am a happy risk taker right now but looking at how I could have damaged my device beyond repair (that is possible) I could have been an angry risk taker crying in the corner and whipping out my N82 while getting the courage to explain to my wife that I wasted money by impatience.

We can heed a warning or neglect it, just know we can't ever say we werent warned and it is no ones fault but ours. We must ask ourself if we are able to live with the potentially negative consquences and without a proper warning, we wouldnt know that there could be anything negative about installing this or any other software.

Thanks to all that gave warning. I jumped the gun before the warning and I am glad everything worked out for me but no matter how much I enjoy this new firmware leak, it would have been smarter for me to wait on Nokia and let them carry the $600 update liabiity with an official release.

I didn't know there was a distinction between moderated and unmoderated threads. My bad.

Perhaps someone should moderate our new stolen goods for sale thread then too.

By the way there were questions in that post of mine you quoted.

Perhaps. It's also possible that Nokia needed some version of PR 1.2 to put on the HK for that release while they continue work on PR 1.2. (and once they release it, HK users will also have to update).
