I have xarchiver v0.4.6 (unrar/archive program) installed on my n900. I have tried to update to v0.4.6.7, but it remains on the previous version, despite saying the update was successful.

My main problem is not the updating, its the fact that I cant create any new rar archive to add files to! When I try to create a new rar folder, xarchive simply quits on me, so I cant add any files to it. No new empty rar file shows either in the location I state. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling xarchive, but it remains on an unusable v0.4.6.

any ideas on how to solve the problem? thanks

I haven't seen the create files problem. Really I didn't tried yet.

But I suffer the non-updating problem too.

if u (or anyone else) has it installed right now, give it a go if possible - click on the new file white document icon on the bottom left of xarchiver, give it a name and choose a location... what happens after you hit that 'save' option... its probably just my phone, lol.

edit - does anyone know if there are any other zip/rar utilities for the n900 (or at least compatible) that arent command line only? that would be handy until the bugs are fixed in xarchiver/it updates correctly. thanks

in my installed folder, it does list xarchiver as 0.4.6.7 and not the previous 0.4.6, so perhaps 0.4.6.7 was not updated with its new version name (although that doesnt explain as to why the n900 still claims theres an update available). ive searched around now, all other zip/rar files are command line only (with most seemingly to be used with just xarchiver), so ill just have to wait/uninstall it until a more compatible maemo 5/n900 version of xarchiver ever appears

i got the same problem with creating new files.. i added the "zip unzip" pack.. dont have "rar" pack just "unrar" but it wont create either.. no zip nor rar files can be created by the Xarchiver... (didnt try to update it waiting for PR 1.2)

what i can offer is to try out:

didnt try it myself so cannot tell you if it works.. let me know if it does.

thanks, hadnt heard of "file roller", so i might give it a go to see if it works better.

if an application you have installed does not tell you which version it is when you run it (it might have an "about the application" option) another way to check is to click on "application manager" and its "uninstall" setting.. it will show you a list of all your installed applications. on the right hand side the numbers for each application refer to the version you currently have on your system... be careful whilst browsing up and down the list to make sure you dont accidentally click on anything and delete it ..and youll be fine! click on the arrow on the top right of the screen and then X to exit.
