But, did I see a VNC Server icon on one of your ROX desktops? How did you get it working on the N800?

VNC server is available in 2006 Application Catalog, I just installed it, and created an ICON

3. Is the USB Host support enabled?

Cheers.
GOOD LUCK, on the repair

1) No, I have not released a tarball for this
2) NO
3) All I did was create KDE, is USB supported in KDE? Not sure what your asking, but usb on my n800 has proved useless thus far..

1. I'll wait :-) I can be patient, you know...
2. ... might write my first HOWTO
3. What I meant to ask was: do you have any idea if I can mount usb devices connected to the usb port of the 770 by default, or do I have to use the usual hack? Any idea?

What I decided to do.

1) Still need to find somewhere to release/host tarball

2) I have decided that I am not going to alter the KDE enviroment to make it more useable on N800. I did a few things like setup keyboard, and the panel, its very useable. I will not however be making a bunch of menu entries for Hildon. I created meun entry for app mgr/conn mgr/clock /control panel.

I will release a tarball, it will be about 160MB 600+MB uncompressed. I considered removing the source and some supporting software needed only to compile. I will not be removing anything. The number one reason, is that you could untar this to scratchbox, set he KDE and QT enviroment variables, and compile more software against it. Or maybe you only want qt libs to compile against. Either way, this is a definte proof of concept, and I want to see the community develop KDE for maemo.

This opens up so many possibilities for the environment its just awesome. I have played a bit with KDE on the n800. I was able to print to a file, postscript, but print none the less. I ran kpackage, and it seems to work with any issues (ALMOST) You can not actually install from it, because it uses -y and there is no way to add the --force-yes, I am sure this could be fixed at compile time. The number one thing I love, is the pager, you can use the pager to move windows up and around so you can get to the entire window, when its to big to fit in 480 pixels.

OK I am just rambling now, but if you find a location , I will post it.

You would have to use the usual hack. Usb support is not part of ANY window manager, its all kernel/module based

I am going to pull my hair out. Every time I build a vm to install the sdk in.. vmware screws up the xserver and it stops working. I don't have a system I can leave linux anymore (and for a unix admin, that is a very very sad thing). The prebuilt vmware image never worked right for me. Hoping the second version will be better. I know this isn't really the thread for this.. but I want to try to get gnome to work and its killing me that I can't try

What OS are you installing? I used ubuntu initially in VM (Workstation) not player and it worked fine. I tried the VM image that was distributed but it would not work on my laptop. So I downloaded the ubuntu CD. I booted up the CD and installed to vmware. I eventually dumped that and installed ubuntu on a 30GB USB drive. My laptop allows me to boot from USB. So I use that as my scratchbox. Anyway I used the sdk install script. Schmots, if you are a UNIX admin, you should be able to find or purchase a harddrive to setup a linux partition. No Excuses!!!

I am actually out of space myself. I only have a 1GB card, 2GB card, and my 30 gig usb drive which is also full. Tese window manager projects have used up all my space. Maybe its time for a donate paypal account
