it works, if you understands that it takes 2 minutes to get a lock

2 minutes just by looking at the red dot is insane. download GPSJinny so you can see while you get sync with each satellite

also, not everyone is careful about not blocking the gps antenna. even your hand can block the gps signal

There's a bug with OVI maps that the app shuts down the GPS before it can get a lock most times without a data signal. One work around is to open the camera app (or any app that enables GPS) and let it wait to get a lock, then open OVI maps once you already have a lock.

Though honestly, I much prefer the Maemo Mapper app, since it doesn't have this GPS bug, and allows me to store/save points and paths. Also, with a little work, you can get turn-by-turn voice instructions out of Mapper if you have flite installed and apply a small hack to it to make it work.

I haven't never faced this bug in 6 months.

It's not a bug - just a poorly-chosen, hard-coded timeout

Please don't spread nonsense. The bug was acknowledged by Nokia and is fixed in the next version of maps (PR1.2).

Without any assistance (internet connection), the GPS will never get a lock within 30 seconds, so you probably had internet connection.

I used to be annoyed terribly by this, but getting a data plan solved the matter for me. Still, for places with expensive roaming the fix will be welcome.
