N900 is a beast we all know that, but is there any way you can intercept text messages? Recently, Wal-Mart fired an employee and intercepted his text messages. So how does one go about doing something like that with the N900?

Erm.. Hack a mobile operators network? Good luck.
Nevermind "how does one go about doing something like that with the N900?"

How does one go about doing at all?

If you're using unencrypted WiFi, the message is there for anyone to read. If you're using encrypted WiFi it's as easy as with any other computer. Don't use WEP. WPA2 is the lowest level to go for, as far as I know. Shared secrets are good too.

If you're talking about traffic that goes to your phone operator over 2G/3G/GPRS you need to use the crack devised some time back which is a Rainbow Table attack, or some other attack, on the ASN.1 (if I remember correctly). The GSM group is still not coming to grips with it.

i havent seen the story but if you using someones network then they can easily monitor all traffic, often the case with businesses

for example when im at work i tend to use our guests open wifi...

this has nothing to do with wifi security

but to do with doing something wrong
