    "starting to get a feeling..."
    Right...
Only way you can test it right now is to get another pair of headset.

    Help "us"
    You and N900 :P

I have the same problem also. Nokia headset not recognised but other headsets are (though seem loose and need wiggling to get both earbuds working - I had never used other phones before so not sure about this issue)...I have had phone and headset looked at by Nokia and they told me they replaced the audio jack because of a 'loose ring' when it was returned...still does not work though. I am in exactly the situation as I was before and find what they say about replacing it completely hard to believe. I have tried other official headsets in store and they are not recognised either so not just my headset. Currently have not returned the phone to Nokia again as I do not want to be without it for so long to potentially no avail, I just use other headphones and go without hands free - not ideal but not grossly inconvenient.

I am interested to see how this thread develops.

Also my TV out cable works absolutely fine...

I tried the official nokia n900 headset and one other, not sure what product code though. Neither were recognised though I am not sure if other nokia model headsets are supposed to be recognised...

have you try pluging them in partial? to see if it would work? if maybe your phone is bad..

I accidently washed/dried my ear phones and they still work.. (talk about build quailty)

@hmoobwarrior: if there was something wrong with my phone then it wouldnt detect any other headphones either. but its only nokia headset which it does not detect :S I tried your method as well but it did not work apparantly, we have just received the PR1.2 (official) release. im flashing it right now. I will test it again after flashing the new firmware and report the results here.
