I get the skype video call button, but am unable to actually connect a video call, all that connects is audio. the 'real' skype client just doesn't get any video from the n900 and doesn't seem to think the device can receive video.
weirdly the contact details do show that the contact support video, but also that it's from amobile device.
any ideas? I was really looking forward to this feature and it just isn't working for me.
i have the same prob. did you get it to work ? is there anyone that can help me out ?
Unfortunately, this solution only works to a certain extent...
Only works if your contacts are online, if they are online I can only see skype video call option....no im option exists..
The im option only exists if I am offline, and vithout a video call option and then I cannot send anything
Basically I cannot send an im to a contact that is offline now
the only way to do that is if I already use a previous im conversation and continue from there......but I cant start a new one
I have the same problem as well? Has anyone got this to work?
The reason the N900 Skype video calling works only with other N900's or the latest WINDOWS version of Skype is that the N900 Skype uses the H.264 (MPEG-4) video codec, which is new to Skype I guess.
Hopefully H.264 support will be coming to the Linux version of Skype soon. Does anyone know if it will be soon?
I use SIP instead of Skype and that has a button to allow me to make a video call over SIP. I've not tried it yet, but I assume it will work for some SIP providers.
Not quite GPRS cell to cell video calling, but an alternative to Skype nonetheless.
I've tried the Skype video call and it works perfect on WiFi and TMobile USA 3G. Talk about chatting on the go! Only thing is, if you are chatting on the road, you may want to get that massive Mugen battery to ensure that your phone battery doesn't die too quickly.
The contact is using the latest version of skype and is online but, they don't have a webcam.
I will do some proper testing with my house mate when I get home
Supposedly if the person does not have a webcam you canot video call hem on the N900 I've tried and it doesn't work but if the person does have a webcam it works perfectly fine and on the contact card it will have the option of Video Call.

As I mentioned before, disabling and reenabling the skype account brought back those options for me (none of my few skype contacts haven't been online since I upgraded). However, I checked just now and the option went away again. I've rebooted since then, so that might have something to do with its annoying reversion.
Disabling and reenabling brought the option back, once again.
