there is also mentioned that bada makes use of eclipse and the gnu toolchain, tho that do not a open platform make, sadly.
checking the pdf linked to the bottom of that page, it seems the internal design is similar to android. It seems to have a system for state saving, and a mention of agents (tho the latter have a "limited use" bullet point).
at least so far it seems to be android, without the java. There seems to be more restrictions however. For instance there is a graphic that shows that only partners (whatever that means) can access the system level of privilege. apps are also sandboxed (can be good or bad, depending on how one see it), and samsung apparently wants to route all your social networking traffic via a special bad server.
so yes, maemo/meego will be more or less unique in that nokia says "go ahead, mess with the internals". google seems to leave that somewhat up to the telco (how very US of them) and with the fall of the nexus one, i fear we will see more attempts at looking out rooting of android phones.
now if just nokia would stop putting these silly roadblocks in, like the pointlessly disabled HID support.
