It is not predefined. The command to open the status menu is

dbus-send --type=signal --session /com/nokia/hildon_desktop com.nokia.hildon_desktop.open_status_menu

If you use keyboard-shortcuts package, you can configure any key for this action by editing /usr/bin/keyboard-shortcut

Cool stuff! Have you thought about submitting these patches upstream?

The Git repository is this AFAIK:

http://maemo.gitorious.org/fremantle-hildon-desktop

keyboard-shortcuts depends on modified-hildon-desktop package, yet the same functionality is provided by your hildon-desktop package.

Is there a reason, or does it simply need to be updated to reflect the package name change for your PR1.2 changes?

Only now I provided a package of hildon-desktop which actually includes a modified binary. Until now I only distributed it as a modified-hildon-desktop package, as this allows installing it with apt-get or H-A-M, while the hildon-desktop package can only be installed using dpkg. Therefore, packages which depend on modified functionality depend on modified-hildon-desktop package.

About submitting patches: I offered them, and the maintainer did not accept.

I understand and see the issue.

FWIW...

Unpacking modified-hildon-desktop (from .../modified-hildon-desktop_2.0_armel.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/modified-hildon-desktop_2.0_armel.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/gconf/schemas/hildon-desktop-keys.schemas', which is also in package hildon-desktop
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
/var/cache/apt/archives/modified-hildon-desktop_2.0_armel.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Shall I force the install?

EDIT: and I see you have included rescue-boot scripts to save boot looping with hildon-desktop, thank you for that.

I think it is easier to reinstall the original hildon-desktop

apt-get install --reinstall hildon-desktop

and only then install modified-hildon-desktop.

I'm starting to regret offering the hildon-desktop package in the start of this thread.

I forced an overwrite, all is fine.

It was initially a bit confusing as to which packages provided which changes, but I understand now.

last night I updated to pr1.2. over air. Before, I get back from over clock to standard Kernel like this:
apt-get --reinstall install kernel kernel-flasher

...after very long time processing, it hangs on pmconfig dpkg etc.. I don't know it exactly. Then I rebooted and everything was very ugly with pink and gray colors, many symbols where missing.

But from now I could update the firmware over program manager. Before he wants me to use PC-Suite, but I wouldn't install anything new.

The update was very fast, different like before and everything works great, apart from the virtual keyboard!

Also longpress on hardware keyboard for the blue symbols didn't work. and lock capitalization with double-click didn't work, too.

I tried everything from here: h**p://discussions.nokiausa.com/t5/Maemo-Devices/n900-virtual-keyboard-not-working/td-p/605318/page/2;jsessionid=198DF0C9522C23EE53433ABBE61CF4E0

But virtual keyboard did not appear. No long press function and no double-click, too. tried to solve it, installing Longpress-Repeat switcher but nothing make it work.

I need some help.
Thank you :-)

(post these here: "Single long press function" , too) I don't know where the topic is at the right place.

I updated the hildon-status-menu-package (here). With this installed the first ten items in the status menu can be selected by the numbers 1-0 (FN not required). The battery and volume count as 1 and 2, though selecting them does nothing.

Since updating to PR1.2 I've lost my shortcut to the homescreen by pressing Ctrl+Fn + H

I tried resending the command:

gconftool-2 -s /apps/osso/hildon-desktop/key-actions/dbus_shift_ctrl -t bool true

But this did not help and the other shortcuts associated wit this command sem to be working still. DO you have any idea how I can get back please?

Also, does anyone know if there is there any command that can be used in the keyboard shortcut script that can take you to a particular one of your four homescreens? So you would have an individual shortcut for each? This would be very useful if it was possible.
