I have the same question about associating file types. I already tried playing around a bit with the files mentioned in this thread, but no luck.
On a sidenote, FreOffice opens excel, powerpoint and word documents just fine here, when opening the file with the dialog in FreOffice itself.

I'm running pr 1.2 and the latest version of freoffice that's there in the devel repositories. It recognises and opens up only excel. Word and ppt dont work! Any fixes.
Slightly off topic, is there any way I can change file association? Can i set freoffice as the default app to open docs?
