I am seeing more and more device makers to have a multitude of operating systems in their smartphone range:
Samsung --> WinMo, Android, LiMo, Bada, Symbian
SE --> WinMo, Android, Symbian
Nokia --> Symbian, Maemo
HTC --> WinMo, Android
LG --> WinMo, Android
What about a device with a certain preinstalled os, and drivers for a few more of them, so that the user can choose what he wants. Or maybe choose the OS that comes with the device, just like you can buy a netbook with either ubuntu or Windows.
Wouldn't that be profitable for the manufacturers? It's like doubling their range considering the OS is first choice parameter for some people (including me)
