Hi!

i just got my shiny microSDHC (32GB) on the mail today. it is working fine so far (though i need to reboot for the rename of mmc to take effect).

i transferred about 64mb of files to the mmc via bluetooth and from the mass storage.

my question, the mass storage has 32GB and a max capacity of 27gb, the microSD also has 32GB but the max capacity is 31gb (as for the Conky app). Is there something wrong? or its just different? i believe that the branded size of mmc is reduced by up to 12% when installed on a hardware/device.

If by "mass storage" you are referring to the internal 32GB chip, that's because 2GB is reserved for /home (/opt) and 768MB is reserved for swap. Then you lose a bit more for the filesystem overhead.

Hi,

The mass storage has a couple of other partitions (2 GB for opt etc) so thats why it's smaller. 32 GB from a manufacturer means less in usable space as the manufacturer use 1000 MB = 1 GB and your computer uses 1024 MB = 1 GB. It's the same for a hard drive.

Henrik

awright! so the app memory. swap and mass storage is all in one.

thanks

my 16GB mmc is 14gb when installed, my n97's 32gb mass storage is 29.9gb when accessed via file manager, so why is my 32GB is 31.23gb when installed? it should be 29gb right?

Just to rule something out early, where'd you get the 32GB SD card?

Modern Windows (Vista and 7) and Apple use 1 GB = 1000 MB nowadays just to make disks and mmcs look like they are as big as the spec says. Linux still use 1GB = 1024 MB I think so you may have the same card show different size depending on the OS.

i heard that its out in the US. my uncle had gone from US as well and i ask him to get me one,

because of a busy work he just order online (i think at Sandisk) and mail in to his location in US.

im quite busy too so, my uncle drop it off on our apartment's mailbox.

EDIT: my friend saw one at e-bay selling for less than $50 USD, he is using it right now and very happy with it. (he has a E71, but i do not know if he use the mmc to the e-series phone)

UPDATE: uh oh, the $50 microSD has ended, $80-$150 USD are the ones now available.

EDIT: there is a store locator at the Sandisk site. I assume your in the US so that should be fine, though it will cause you a bit. maybe go for e-bay. i got my 16 and 8 GB frome-bay and until now, i can still use them.
